Our Bolt Down Bollards are fabricated in the U.S. from U.S. Steel and are heavier and stronger than the “economy”, thin-walled base plate bollards you see around the internet. They don’t use even a Schedule 40 wall and their largest is 5 inch pipe. We have Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 (thick and thicker wall) pipes in 4″, 5″, 6″ and 8″ diameters, along with heavy base plates.

Bollard Boss

The BOSS says…

Don’t get fooled by the cheapo base plate, so called “bollards” they got around the internet. Sure, they might be just fine for light duty protection, but if you really need to protect the machinery and shelving in a warehouse, you want a heavy-walled bollard with a thick heavy plate and big anchors. We’re talkin Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 Pipes here, not that Steel Tube Schedule “Whatever” that they use.

Ours Bollards are made in Detroit, Michigan with US Steel!

Indoors: Optimal Bollard Protection

With so many options, we surely have bollard protection solution that is tailored to suit your warehouse, assembly plant or manufacturing space. You choose: Diameter, Height, Plate Size & Thickness, Anchor Hole Size, Optional Welded Cap, Finish and Bollard Cover.

Outdoors: Base Plate Bollards vs In-Ground Bollards

Bolt Down bollards are often the only option for indoors where you can’t dig for a concrete footing. But for economy, sometimes they are also used outdoors where in-ground cored bollard installation is not possible or is too expensive.

In-Ground Installed Bollard Pipes are certainly recommended over Base-Plate Bollards where protection from errant vehicles is critical. Bolt down bollards are only as strong as the anchors and anchoring surface where as in-ground bollards are as strong as the bollard pipe and footing.

Bolt Down Bollards are Easier to Replace

When used outdoors around vehicles, Bolt Down Bollards should only be valued as deterrents, not for vehicle-stopping capability. But there may be an advantage to that. In the middle of a lot (as in the picture) where you aren’t necessarily trying to stop a fast car, you may want to minimize vehicle damage and occupant injury. If compromised, a bolt-down bollard is much easier to replace.

Powder Coated and Covered Bolt Down Bollards

Powder Coated Bolt Down Bollards with Covers

Made in the USA

Fabricated in Detroit with U.S. Steel

These Base Plate Bollards are made from US Steel pipe and most often, covered in a Thermoplastic Polyethylene with Ultra-Violet and Anti-Static Additives Bollard Cover. These “Bumper Posts” are useful for protection around warehouses, facilities, buildings, drive-thrus etc.

Diameters: Our Bolt-Down are offered in Schedule 40 or Schedule 80 for all diameters. In almost all cases, Schedule 40 is sufficient for most applications.

Heights: Our Bolt down bollards may be ordered in the following heights: 27″, 36″, 42″, 48″, 52″.

Finishes: Whether covered or not, these bollards are available in Bare Steel, Galvanized, Primed, Finished Coat and Powder Coated options. Note that Galvanized should not be painted, as it doesn’t hold paint very well.

Base Plate Bollards are also known as Bumper Posts, Surface Mount Bollards, Welded Plate Bollards and Bolt Down Bollards to name a few.

Bollard Cover or Steel Welded Cap

Welded Steel Bollard Dome Cap

Welded Dome Cap Before Finishing

Welded Flat or Dome Steel Cap: Instead of using a bollard cover, you can have a flat cap (all sizes) or dome cap (4″ and 6″ only) welded to the top. Note that this is better suited for indoor applications. Outdoors, we suggest using a cover, so the welded dome cap would be hidden and redundant.

Bollard Cover: Unless specified, we bundle bollard covers with the base plate bollards.

Custom Base Plate Bollards

Choosing Your Bolt-Down Bollards

MOST ECONOMICAL INDOOR BOLLARD OPTION: The most economical option for indoor applications is to get the bollard in raw steel or primed steel and then simply cover with the bollard sleeve. If you get raw or primed, we suggest you at least finish coat the base plate with enamel for best appearance.

MOST DURABLE OUTDOOR BOLLARD OPTION: The most durable option is a galvanized steel base plate bollard covered with a bollard sleeve. Otherwise, we suggest finish coated or primed. If just primed, we suggest you at least finish coat the base plate with enamel for best rust prevention.

Holes are usually 1 inch on-center from each edge at each corner. Larger holes may be farther inset. NOTE: Anchor hardware is not included in quote.

Include Bollard Covers on Quote?
Alert: Galvanized does not hold paint well because it's acts like a non-stick frying pan, so don't choose galvanized if you are hoping to paint pipe. Leave galvanized unpainted as is or cover it with a bollard cover.
